Humour

Click here for details of the
anti-Bush bag

I'd give up chocolate but I'm no quitter

Remember:
being cruel is
NOT funny

Category 1 Almost any humour against George Bush, the US regime or US corporations is permissible. The same goes for Tony Blair and the Blair Witch Project.

Category 2 Almost any humour against men which subverts stereotypical tendencies. The same goes for women (many of these jokes revolve around our special relationship with chocolate).

Category 3 Almost any humour against anything which subverts the status quo.

Here are just a couple examples. Send us more, we know there are plenty out there!

Globalisation / cultural imperialism

  • In China, a Coca-Cola advertisement used Chinese symbols to sound out the name of the product phonetically. The company had to withdraw the ad after learning that Co Ca Co La meant "Bite the wax tadpole"

  • When General Motors introduced the Chevrolet Nova in Latin America, it was obvious they didn't know their Spanish. Ads across Latin America heralded the arrival of the new reliable Nova, which in Spanish means "Doesn't go"
