Cuba No hay tarea dificil, solo hombres incapaces There is no task too difficult, Che Guevara My dreams will have no boundaries |
"One of the many things I appreciated about Cuba was that people have time to devote to cultural activities and develop their own artistic talents - music, painting, poetry. Our last evening in Havana we went to see the national ballet company perform Swan Lake. The huge theatre was packed - entire families with grandma in tow, courting couples, groups of teenagers, regular guys who had just come on their own. It seemed more like a football match. People were eating hotdogs and drinking Coke. Every time a well-known dancer came on stage, or performed a complex piece, a great cheer rang out and the whole audience leapt to their feet. Everyone could afford to be there - and everyone was ballet literate. Isn't this what 'development' should be about?"
